Cougar Cafe Inspiring Future Food Service Workers
The hottest thing going on at Croatan High School this school year has been the addition of the Croatan Cafe! At the beginning of this school year Croatan High School opened their new wing which included a restaurant grade kitchen classroom. Chef Kevin Reese was hired from New Bern High School to man the helm and the Croatan Cafe was born!
Two months into the school year, Chef Reese had his culinary arts students hustling, fixing breakfast and lunch for faculty every Thursday. Breakfast offerings have included omelettes, breakfast burritos and eggs benedict while lunch servings included chili cheese dogs with tater tots, Philly cheese steaks and chicken alfredo. Chef Reese who also serves as an athletics coach, coaching the linebackers on the varsity football team and serving as the girl’s head JV basketball coach has even prepared pre-game meals for players and coaches. One of the football team’s favorites was his baked chicken with green beans, mac and cheese and homemade ice cream sandwiches with chocolate chip cookies and vanilla ice cream.
The Cougar Cafe is now expanding to offer catering for school events. In just one semester, Chef Reese and his culinary team have made a huge impact on our school and his program is quickly becoming the talk of the town for Croatan students and faculty alike!
