Soundside Steak and Seafood, Classic Dishes made with high end ingredients!

We recently enjoyed a great meal with friends at Soundside Steak and Seafood Restaurant. This high end restaurant can easily be missed as it is located in a strip plaza right off the main drag in Morehead City. Don’t let its humble exterior fool you though, inside it’s a quaint eatery serving home cooked favorites with high end ingredients.

On this night, we were dining with another couple and being a Wednesday night, there was ample seating inside. The hostess met us at the door, directed us to our table and introduced our waiter for the night. He was very cordial, taking drink and appetizer orders.  I selected stuffed cremini mushroom caps with three cheese blend, garlic, herbs, ground filet mignon topped with a parmesan panko as my starter as our friends went with the petite French loaf with garlic whipped butter and an olive oil/ balsamic dipping dish. The mushrooms were delicious, and the loaf of bread was fresh from the oven and still served warm.

Although the sweet and spicy Joyce farms poulet Rouge small breed ½ chicken with a spicy apricot glaze and savory herb bread pudding caught my eye, our servers description of the night’s special, a 45 day dry aged ground ribeye meatloaf on a mound of roasted garlic mashed potatoes and Parmesan crusted brussel sprouts peaked my interest. When he commented that they always sell out of it when its on the menu I was sold. Now I’m a meatloaf lover from way back, so when I heard the ingredients, I had very high hopes that this would be one of the best meatloaf’s I had ever had, it did not disapoint. The Mrs opted for the classic surf and turf with a 10oz sirloin topped with a dollop of jalapeno lime compound butter, local shrimp also served with a side of garlic mashed potatoes and roasted brussel sprouts.

Our server did a good job making sure everyone’s drinks were never empty and the hostess checked in on us frequently as well. The two large slabs of meatloaf covered the sides hiding underneath. Unlike other meatloaves I've had, this one made a trip back in the frying pan before being served, creating a nice outer crust but still remaining juicy on the inside. After the first bite, I could tell that it was made with higher cut of beef than usual meatloaves. The glaze on top had a nice tang and all three parts of the entrĂ©e worked really well with each other, which is how I prefer to eat this dish. As seen in the pictures, portions were very hearty. As usual, I was a member of the clean plate club, while Melissa had to get a take home container for her meal. The star of the meal was Melissa’s shrimp on her surf and turf. Being a Marylander, I’ve eaten a lot of shrimp in my life, these were cooked perfectly and seasoned to perfection! One of the best seasoning mixes I’ve ever had on shrimp!

A pleasant surprise was one of our table mates’ plates was a little slow coming out, so the floor manager offered free dessert for our inconvenience. I opted for the chocolate/raspberry torte which was delicious! A very nice gesture on their part, I must say. All in all a wonderful experience with delicious food and I look forward to our next visit!
