Christmas at 34 North combines delicious food with a festive atmosphere!

Tucked away on the banks of Taylors Creek in the coastal town of Beaufort, NC you will find 34 Degrees North, one of Carteret County's premiere restaurants. The outdoor covered patio made this an ideal location for our neighborhood’s monthly supper club meeting as we enjoyed front row seats for the Crystal Coast Christmas Flotilla passing by, adding to the holiday atmosphere!

The diverse menu at 34 North features delicious cuisines highlighting local farms and locally sourced seafood providing a very memorable dining experience. The pricier menu compared to other local restaurants makes this a night out reserved for special occasions.

Although charcuteries often don’t require genius culinary skills, 34 North’s is one of my favorites as an appetizer combining regional meats, cheeses, honeycomb, almonds, preserves and toasted baguettes, I have ordered it on more than one occasion. We enjoyed a bottle of French Reisling with our appetizers. For our entrĂ©e, I went with a locally caught Mahi Mahi filet that came on a bed of red beans and rice, seasoned in a Caribbean jerk rub, topped with a pineapple/corn salsa and orange rum sauce, and accompanied by fried plantains. The fish filet was a very hearty portion and was seasoned and cooked perfectly. This was one of the best fish plates that I’ve had in a long time. The red beans and rice along with the fried plantains created the perfect Caribbean dish. Melissa opted for the 16oz. Ribeye steak and felt it was ok. Not the best but not the worst either, not as tender as she likes. Her sides of grilled asparagus were simply seasoned with just the right amount of salt and pepper and the parmesan risotto was very creamy. The sides are extra. Her portion sizes were large enough that it required a to go box whereas my dish was so delectable, I was a member of the clean plate club.

The only negatives from our dining experience were the service. We waited 40 minutes for our first round of drinks. In 34 Norths defense, this evening is one of their busiest of the year as their location and fabulous food make them the premiere spot for viewing the Flotilla. Our server was very apologetic, but it did cause a little disdain as others in our party were eating while we were left still waiting. Fortunately, their excellent food trumped the slow service.
