Churchill's British Restaurant and Pub a must do stop in Savannah Georgia
For me a
trip to Savannah, Georgia is not complete without a stop for a bite at
Churchill's Restaurant. This authentic British Pub is in the heart of
Savannah's historic district and has the feel and ambience of stepping into
real British pub.
On
my latest visit over Thanksgiving, I again stopped by my favorite Savannah
watering hole and as usual they did not disappoint. While perusing Churchill’s
expansive menu, I chose to wet my whistle with a pint of their signature
Churchill’s Cobblestone Lager. As an appetizer one of my favorites is their
Scotch eggs however on this occasion, I decided to go with a bowl of their She
Crab soup, a blend of rich cream, sherry wine and fresh blue crab meat. Being a
native Marylander, I always raise an eyebrow with any dish involving blue crab.
My past experiences usually find that restaurants are bit too stingy with the
crab for my tastes. Churchill’s She-crab soup, however hit the spot, perfect
texture and mouth feel and seasoned just right with large chunks of backfin
meat. For my entrée, Bangers and Mash is always a tough option for me to pass
on. It’s one of my top 10 favorite dishes and for the most part English / Irish
pubs create this hearty peasant’s dish perfectly. Churchills version of this classic
was spot on. Delicious English style pork sausages over creamy mashed potatoes
with drizzles of a caramelized shallot gravy.
My daughter Savannah accompanied me on this trip, and she opted for what would have been my second choice, the Guinness Meatloaf. Slices of house-made meatloaf, over fluffy mashed potatoes, and green beans. The dish was topped their signature black and tan onion rings with drizzles of BBQ sauce. I really don’t think you can go wrong with any of the selections on their menu. I would definitely include a stop here on your next Savannah visit.
